Akua Carborundum Gel Workshop with Caren Friedman
Sat Feb 3, 10am-4pm
M: $120, NM $135, Materials: $22
Includes 6 hours of FREE studio time
Students will learn how to use the NEW non-toxic Akua Carborundum Gel to create quick and easy printmaking plates. This process yields a rich velvety surface which can be worked into using dark-field reductive techniques similar to a monotype or mezzotint.
Working from sketches or photographs, students will use a variety of mark-making tools to manipulate their plates while they are wet, and then continue to work into the surface of the plate as the carborundum layer hardens. Students will proof their images using Akua Intaglio inks. Photographic applications of this process will also be covered as well as the use of acrylic medium and other methods to create a wider range of values. Open to beginners and experienced printmakers alike.
Deadline to sign up is Jan 19, 2018
